Join Bent Paddle’s Ambassador and Certified Cicerone Matthew Barthelemy (@BentMattle) for a technical course on beer flavors. This class include 10 important flavor spikes (7 off-flavors, 3 positive flavors) where you will taste and smell the exact compounds. After a blind self examination, you will get to learn about how these compounds are created and how to look for them. Enjoy a few samples of Bent Paddle beers at the end of class to wash away the off-flavors. Off-flavors: Infection (combination), trans-2-nonenal (oxidation), acetaldehyde (green apple), 2,3-butanedione (diacetyl), dimethyl sulphide (DMS), 3-methyl-2-butene-1-thiol (lightstruck), 4-ethyl phenol (band-aid) Positive: isoamyl acetate (fruity esters), 4-vinyl guiaicol (peppery phenol), 2-acetyl pyridine (malty, biscuit)
