Mandan Progress Organization Holding 6th Annual Oktober Fest on Sept. 29
The Mandan Progress Organization is holding its sixth annual Oktober Fest on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.at Dykshoorn Park on West Main Street. The festival celebrates the region’s German heritage with a variety of food booths, family activities, live music, and craft beer tasting.
Admission is $5 with ages 12 and under welcome free. Attendees in full, traditional German costume such as lederhosen or dirndls who arrive before 3 p.m. will be admitted for a discounted fee of $3 each or two people in costume for $5.
Food vendors will offer German favorites like fleishkuechle, knoephla soup, kuchen, blachinda, kase knoephla, spaetzle, sausage and kraut, cheese buttons, brats and German burgers, plus there will be American favorites like burgers and hotdogs. Other vendors will also be present. A beer garden will be open throughout the day.
The 2018 Official Beer of Oktober Fest is Dialectic Brewing’s West End Kölsch. A “tapping of the keg” ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. followed by happy hour contests challenging participants to beer stein hoisting, a stein slide, and more. There will also be men’s and women’s German costume contests during this timeframe.
The bierzelt or beer tent, sponsored by Jerome’s Distributing and McQuade Distributing, features a craft beer tasting from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. hosted by Main Street Drive Thru Liquor with contributions from Buffalo Commons Brewing, Dialectic Brewing, Gideon’s Brewing, Fargo Brewing, Laughing Sun Brewing and Stonehome Brewing. More than 20 local and other craft beers will be available. Beer tasting wristbands are $25 in advance, $30 at the gate. Fees include overall event admission.
Beer tasting wristbands will be available for advance purchase by Aug. 31 through Sept. 28 at the MPO office at 411 W Main plus at Buffalo Commons Brewing, Dialectic Brewing, Main Street Drive Thru Liquor, Mandan Depot Bier Hall, Station West Bar and Grill, all in Mandan; plus Stonehome Brewing, Bismarck; and Gideon’s Brewing, Lincoln.
